SonicWall Network Security

Implementing a SonicWall firewall is a way of defending your business against everyday online threats such as malware and viruses and gives you much more than just that.  For effective zero-day threat protection, organisations need solutions that include malware-analysis technologies and can detect evasive advanced threats and malware.

A SonicWall firewall scans traffic and extracts suspicious code for analysis, but unlike other gateway solutions, has no file size limitation. Global-threat intelligence infrastructure rapidly deploys remediation signatures for newly identified threats to all SonicWall network security appliances, thus preventing further infiltration. Customers benefit from high-security effectiveness, fast response times and reduced total cost of ownership.

SonicWall provides these services for your business:

Gateway Security – protecting your network from the latest threat events contained within encrypted connections and unknown zeroday threats.
DPI SSL – Inspect HTTPs sites and links to filter any treats or websites that are non-productive.
Capture – ZeroDay sandboxing for detection of new threats that signatures have not yet been written for.
Content Filtering – ensure business focus by restricting as needed access to websites that can be time wasters.
Bandwidth and Application Control – see who’s doing what with what and when to ensure the correct resources are available and prioritised for key users or applications.
PCI DSS Compliance – use a Secure Firewall as part of your compliance needs.
Mobile workers – use of SonicWall Secure Mobile Access can deliver applications as needed with control depending on user, device and location.
VoIP integration – can your current firewall provide QoS along with securing the connection against hacks resulting in excessive bills.

We highly recommend that every business consider a solution like this to be in place to provide ultimate piece of mind.   To find out what options are available for you, please contact us now…

Microsoft Windows 7 – End of Life

Microsoft Windows 7 Operating System will reach End of Life in January 2020

When Microsoft Windows 7 reaches end of support on the 14th of January 2020 your computer will still function but Microsoft will no longer provide technical support for any issues, software updates or security updates or fixes.

Whilst the end of life of an operating system and on-going support may not be an issue for some, the fact that Windows 7 will no longer be security patched after this date means you could be left highly vulnerable in what is already a rapidly changing threat landscape.

The most popular option to take following Windows 7 End of Life is to migrate to Windows 10 as recommended by Microsoft. However, this may result in the requirement for hardware upgrades and additional hardware costs at a time when many are already being challenged with reduced resources and increased demands.

RGB Solutions can guide through your options and advise of the best approach for your organisation. Whether it is a software upgrade, help with backup and storage, or looking into flexible cost effective solutions with our fully Managed IT service, we are happy to organise an audit and consultation to discuss your requirements.

Security Tip – SSL Certificates

Do you access your email remotely using webmail or provide access to a hosted website platform?  If the answer is yes, do you know if the connection is secure and is not being monitored or read by attackers/hackers on that network?  With an SSL certificate for your webserver or email server you have the knowledge and confidence of knowing that the connection between your computer and the server is encrypted and secure.

An SSL certificate in the modern online era forms part as the backbone of internet security.  Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificates are used to establish an encrypted and secure connection between the computer’s internet browser or email client that you are using, to the server that you are connected to for data or emails.

With an SSL certificate in place a certificate will protect any sensitive data that you have in your company data such as client information, payment details and your own information from being intercepted from any non-authorised party.

The simplest way to tell if you have got an encrypted session on your web browser will be to see the padlock next to the web address you are browsing. Without this you are vulnerable to all non-authorised parties.  The padlock symbolises that the connection is encrypted and secured when browsing that site.

To discuss in more detail or to consider implementing a certificate for your website, data and email servers, contact RGB Solutions now.

Thanks to new technology the latest iMac is only 5mm thick at its edge and has reduced energy consumption compared to previous Macs whilst still maintaining Apple’s high standards of brightness and contrast.

The latest iMacs are also the most powerful yet, with up-to six-core Intel processors which are available with speeds up-to 4.6GHz as well as the latest Radeon Pro graphics card and Thunderbolt 3 connectors which offer up to 40Gbps of bandwidth compared with just 10Gbps given on USB 3.1

Also optional is Apple’s Fusion hard-drive technology which combines the capacity of a traditional hard-drive with the high performance of flash based storage. Three stream 802.11ac wireless technology offers speeds of up to 1.3Gbps when connected to a compatible wireless network.

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

RGB Solutions provide intelligent and efficient power protection ranging from entry level to scaleable network runtime devices that provide ideal Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for servers, point-of-sale, routers, switches, hubs and other business critical devices.

APC Smart-UPS™ devices are trusted by millions of IT professionals throughout the world to protect equipment and critical data from costly interruptions by supplying reliable, network-grade power reliably and efficiently.

Protecting your hardware equipment is important but ensuring a safe shut-down in an abrupt power-cut situation allows data to be safely saved minimising corruption which is often of more concern than the power outage itself.

Available in a variety of form factors and classes (entry level, standard and extended run), there is a model for nearly every application and budget.

Standard models are the most popular UPS in the world for business servers, storage and network devices and have long been considered the benchmark for reliability and manageability.

Entry level Smart-UPS models are an economical choice for small and medium businesses looking to protect small networking devices, point-of-sale (POS) equipment and entry level servers.

The extended run models accept external battery packs for long runtime to power critical servers, security and communication systems through outages that could last hours.
